What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are a type of cosmetic injectable used to fill in moderate to severe facial wrinkles, add subtle volume, and improve definition in the facial structures. Common dermal filler treatments include lip augmentation, cheek augmentation, treatment for undereye hollows, and smoothing smile lines (nasolabial folds), marionette lines, and other types of deep folds.
Unlike Botox and Dysport, cosmetic fillers can address static wrinkles that are visible when your face is at rest, and they restore age-related volume loss to address more advanced signs of aging. While they can be used in tandem with neuromodulators, fillers serve an entirely different purpose. The best way to know which injectable is right for you is to discuss your goals with your provider.
Your Dermal Filler Options at Glow Skin + Wellness
At Glow Skin + Wellness Med Spa, we offer FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers from Restylane and Juvéderm. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is naturally found in the body, and it is largely responsible for your skin’s elasticity and beautiful glow. By replenishing hyaluronic acid and moisture in the skin, HA fillers create beautiful, natural-looking results that highlight your unique facial contours.
Juvéderm
The Juvéderm collection consists of several different fillers, including Juvéderm Ultra XC, Volbella lip filler, and Vollure. Some fillers have a thinner, more flexible formula that is ideal for lip augmentation and undereye hollows, while others have a dense structure used to build cheek and jawline definition.
Restylane
Restylane is another type of hyaluronic acid dermal filler with many different options to improve moderate to severe wrinkles and volume loss in different areas of the face. We offer Restylane Lyft, Defyne, Contour, and more. These fillers can be used to plump lips, address moderate to severe temple hollowing, smooth lines, and more!
Am I a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?
Because dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the facial tissue, they are safe for almost all healthy adults who want to non-surgically address signs of aging or lack of definition in the face. To ensure this treatment is safe for you, we will ask about your medical history at your initial consultation. Patients who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, taking blood thinners, or have a history of allergic reactions to cosmetic fillers may not be suitable candidates.
During this consultation, we will also discuss your treatment goals to select the best filler of combination of Restylane or Juvéderm fillers for your treatment.
How to Prepare for Dermal Filler Treatment
In the days leading up to dermal filler injections, patients should avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications like aspirin and ibuprofen to minimize the risk of bruising and injection-site bleeding. You should also avoid harsh skincare products and exfoliating treatments that could cause irritation or damage to the treatment area. On the day of your appointment, we recommend arriving with no makeup if possible. It’s also important to stay hydrated and follow all of your provider’s instructions for before and after the procedure.
The Dermal Filler Procedure
Dermal filler treatment is performed in our comfortable office space and only takes about 30 minutes. While many patients do not find their filler injections to be painful, a topical numbing cream can be provided. Your provider will mark the treatment area(s) and inject the filler using a fine needle. Once the injections are complete, patients can return to work or other daily activities.
“This is a great place to do your ‘fix ups’. Everything is explained to you so that you understand the process of your fix. If you do/don’t need something done they will be honest. I feel their number is not the money it is the patient. If you need or want some work done I would definitely refer you to these docs.”

Dermal Fillers Recovery and Results
One of the many benefits of dermal fillers is that there is little downtime required. Temporary redness, mild swelling, and bruising may occur around the injection site but these side effects will only last a few days. To alleviate discomfort, we recommend the use of ice packs and anti-inflammatory medication, and the avoidance of excess sun exposure. Patients should avoid strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours, but all other activities can be immediately resumed.
Patients can expect some immediate results, but it takes up to 14 days for the filler to fully settle into the skin. After this time, you can expect a significant improvement in the appearance of wrinkles and a refreshed, youthful appearance. Depending on the type of filler used in your treatment, results can last anywhere from 6-18 months.
