What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses chemical exfoliation to strip away the outer layer of dead or damaged skin cells, revealing a new layer of healthy, radiant skin. Peels use active ingredients like glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), carbolic acid, and retinol with unique combinations based on the depth of the peel and conditions being treated.
Because of this customization, they can be used to treat a wide range of skin concerns, from uneven skin tone and texture to signs of aging and sun damage. While light and medium peels can be done by most providers, deep peels can only be performed by specially licensed physicians.
Your Chemical Peel Options at Glow Skin + Wellness
At Glow Skin + Wellness, we offer three main types of chemical peels:
Light Chemical Peel
Light or superficial peels are a great option for those who want to refresh their skin before a big event. This type of skin peel only strips away the top layer of skin (the epidermis) and requires little downtime and recovery. Light peels target superficial skin conditions like rough skin texture, dryness, dullness, and mild hyperpigmentation.
Medium Chemical Peel
Medium-depth chemical peels penetrate deeper and reach the top layers of the dermis, or middle layer of skin. These peels target fine lines and wrinkles, moderate discoloration (melasma, age spots, dark spots, etc.), and uneven skin texture caused by acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and sun damage.
Deep Chemical Peel
Deep peels cause the epidermis and dermal layer to peel away, allowing for dramatic skin rejuvenation. Deep chemical peels can address deeper scars, facial wrinkles, and skin damage in the deeper layers of the skin. Because of the intensive nature of this peel, patients should be prepared for a longer recovery period.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?
We offer customized peels, so many patients who want to achieve healthier skin and a more even complexion can benefit. However, those with sensitive skin types or skin conditions like rosacea might not be suitable candidates, especially for deep peels. At your initial consultation, one of our expert providers will discuss your medical history and examine your skin to determine whether you are a candidate and which type of peel will most safely and effectively help you achieve refreshed skin.
How to Prepare for a Chemical Peel
In the weeks leading up to your chemical peel, we recommend that patients avoid harsh skincare products or exfoliating treatments. This includes products with retinol, glycolic and salicylic acid, and manual exfoliation with facial scrubs or dermaplaning. It is also important to stay hydrated and protect your skin from sun exposure, as sunburns or skin damage could require your procedure to be delayed. On the day of your chemical peel treatment, please keep your skin clean from any makeup or skincare products.
“This is a great place to do your ‘fix ups’. Everything is explained to you so that you understand the process of your fix. If you do/don’t need something done they will be honest. I feel their number is not the money it is the patient. If you need or want some work done I would definitely refer you to these docs.”

The Chemical Peel Procedure
At the start of your procedure, your skin will be deeply cleansed to remove makeup, debris, and oil. Next, the chemical solution will be applied to the skin and left to sit for a few minutes before it is thoroughly removed. Finally, your provider will moisturize the skin and apply SPF to protect your skin for the rest of the day. Patients can return to work and other daily activities immediately after their procedure.
Chemical Peel Recovery and Results
Recovery after a chemical peel varies, depending on the type of peel you received. Light peels typically require minimal downtime and result in very little peeling or flaking, while deeper peels can cause peeling that lasts several days or weeks. Redness and skin irritation is also common during the first few days of recovery. It is vital that you let your skin peel on its own and avoid picking, scrubbing, or manually peeling, as this could cause long-term skin damage. Additionally, you can protect your skin by avoiding direct sun exposure and applying SPF 30+ daily.
As the treated skin peels away, the new skin underneath will gradually resurface, revealing a clearer complexion and smoother texture. Medium-depth chemical peels only require one treatment for optimal results, but a light peel can be performed monthly to maintain smooth, radiant skin. This can be discussed at your consultation when we create your personalized care plan.
